Early Look at 2021 Calendar
Eleven Denver Leaguers
Zoomed on Friday to begin planning the program calendar for the winter and
spring of 2021. Nothing is in stone yet, but we have some exciting ideas for
one virtual briefing a month, perhaps two on occasion.
Peg Oldham is checking on
who would be best to let us know what is planned for the new tax to relieve
homelessness that we just passed in the November election. There is already a
plan in place, and it will include citizen input. We’d like to be in on that.
We are aiming to schedule that briefing in January.
Sue Stark is contacting a
speaker we think would be a great follow up to the Kick-Off presentation by
Representative Leslie Herod. It would continue the topic of reforming the
police and how we can protect the civil rights of minorities. Assistant
Director of Program Barbara Allen Ford will be forming a group of Leaguers to
look in more depth on this topic and bring us information on what is happening
in this area. Please contact Barbara (barbaraaford@msn.com) if you would like to be a part of this group.
In March, we hope to hear
from some legislators on some hot topics. However, there was an interesting
article in The Post this weekend about how unpredictable the legislative
schedule may be in 2021, as it was in 2020.
We were all interested in
a topic suggested by Cindy Sestrich on what is Socialism and what can be done
to protect or improve our democracy. This is complex and we will have to see how
we can focus to make this topic or these topics meaningful. If we do go in this
direction in April, it may be two meetings.
In May we will have our
Annual Meeting. Last year we had a great turnout for this event online. That is
usually scheduled for the first weekend in May, but that is one advantage to
virtual events, we can schedule them when it works best.
If you are interested in
getting involved in planning any of these topics, please let me know. We’d love
to get more people involved in program.
