Program Briefing
Denver's Nationally Recognized STAR and Co-Responder Programs
Tuesday, April 5, 2022, 5:30 PM

Denver has been nationally recognized for innovations in behavioral health that boost the effectiveness of community policing in Denver with the addition of public health strategies:
Chris Richardson, LPC, Mental Health Center of Denver and Carleigh Sailon, LCSW, were instrumental in the design, development, and management of the Co-responder and STAR programs in Denver.  These programs, in cooperation with the Denver Police Department, provide licensed mental health professionals to respond to mental health emergencies formerly responded to solely by the Denver Police Department.  The DPD and these programs work together to try and assure that the right resources are provided in emergency situations.  Photos of Chris and Carleigh in action are below.

Passages

Betsey Kester -- Betsy was very active in league including being on the board. She belonged to Heritage unit before moving to Cherrington. She and Twyla Bowe worked together at CO Dept of Human Services.  We received the following from Betsy's daughter, Valerie Podmore, this week:
" I wanted to let you know that last week on Tuesday Betsy fell ill with an infection and passed away quite quickly on Wednesday the 23rd.  I know she enjoyed being part of such a worthy organization and while she was unable to attend many meetings recently, she still held you all in her thoughts.  We will let you know of the memorial service when we have details sorted out."

Addie Cohen --Addie Cohen's daughter, Marcia, called to inform the LWVD that her mother's Funeral Service will be on April 3, at 1:00 p.m. at the Club House on 12691 West Alameda Drive, Lakewood, CO 80228-2817.  Marcia would welcome anyone sharing memories during the service about Addie and her work with the league. Addie was 90.

Dee Netzel's husband, Dr Richard G Netzel, died last week.  Dee is a member of Cherrington Unit and has played piano for the Women to Watch event for many years.
"Dr. Richard G. Netzel, 93, died peacefully at home on March 13. He was a kind, brilliant, curious man, whose humor and generosity will be sorely missed by all who knew him. "
