LWV Denver Briefings

Denver's Preschool Program, February 21, 2023, 5:30 - 7:00 PM via Zoom

In 2006, LWVDenver endorsed a ballot issue that would, with a .15% increase in city sales tax, create the Denver Preschool Program. League positions have always supported a quality and equitable public school system, pre-K-12. The proposal only seemed to make sense—an investment in quality care and education for Denver four year olds. DPP not only provides tuition credits for families, based on a sliding income scale, but also works with preschools to improve and ensure quality programming.

On Tuesday, February 21, Elsa Holguín, president and CEO of Denver Preschool Program (DPP), will be the presenter at the LWVDenver briefing at 5:30 p.m. on Zoom. She will present an update on the continuing development and success of the program.   Plan to attend this briefing and invite your friends and family with preschool aged children.

The Communication Team thanks Shirly White for creating the poster for this briefing.

Confined Voter Update

Last Monday and Tuesday, LWV Voter Service volunteers worked with Denver Elections staff and CCJRC (Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition) to register 81 people in the two Denver jails.  This is a state-recognized program that targets potential voters who might not otherwise have the opportunity to register and vote.  Incarcerated people are often still eligible to vote.

Help Needed

State Climate Change Task Force

Each week, Sandy Vandehaey of the LWVCO Climate Task Force forwards articles about air quality.  Is there a member of the Denver League who would like to receive and monitor them for occasional inclusions in our weekly update or the Voter?  Below are links to two articles Sandy has just sent:  one on agriculture's contribution to air quality; another on gas stove regulations changes.
