| | | Reproductive Health and Abortion Access - Tuesday March 21, 2023
5:30 PM-7:00 PM via Zoom | The March 21 Briefing will give you an update on the activities of Colorado's abortion rights organizations, including Cobalt (https://cobaltadvocates.org/) and Colorado Organization For Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR Latina) and Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/) , and the Abortion Access Task Force of the League of Women Voters of Colorado. The briefing will include information on legislation being planned for the Colorado Legislature.

May (13 or 20)—Watch for the announcement of the date of our annual meeting. The speaker will be Britta Fisher, formerly Denver's HOST program director and incoming CEO of Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. The meeting will be LIVE and in person at the Montview Presbyterian Church and will feature a Continental breakfast.
Annual Award Nominations - Nominations will soon open for the Denver League's annual awards - the Shirley Weaver Award for Lifetime Achevement and the Marty Sloven Mother Lode Award. These are awarded annually to League members who have contributed to the League's success. Look for award nomination forms in the next Voter Newsletter.

| LWVCO and Other League Events | David Becker will be a speaker at an LWVCO virtual event on 4/11, 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM . He and Major Garrett, NBC Chief Washington Correspondent, recently co-authored a book called The Big Truth: Upholding Democracy in the Age of the Big Lie, and they'll both discuss their book and the research that went into it.

Beth Hendrix LWVCO | Park Hill Golf Course Easement - Tuesday March 7, 2023 - Recording Available | The recording of this briefing is available on our web site www.lwvdenver.org. You do not have to be a member to view the recording.
At peak attendance, 97 individuals attended this informative briefing from proponents and opponents of the Park Hill Golf Course Easement ballot issue. This along with two other issues will be voted on Tuesday, April 4.

A new Denver Mayor and at least 5 new City Council members will be elected this Spring. If you are undecided and want to know more about candidates, Inter Neighborhood Cooperation and the League of Women Voters invite you to watch the Denver Decides candidate forums on Denver TV8. All of the candidates for Mayor, City Council, Auditor & Clerk & Recorder have been recorded explaining their position on current Denver issues including homelessness, safety, climate, and housing affordability.

The forums are produced by Denver Channel 8 and moderated by Channel 7 on air hosts Micah Smith and Russell Haythorn.

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation (INC) | Voter Service Committee
Voter Service again participated in voter registration at the Denver City and County Jail facilities. Over 100 eligiblel voters were registered at these events. Our team will also provide In-person voting to jail inmates prior to the election. Assistance was also provided to residents of several Brookdale faciliites including registrations and address changes. Thanks to Renee Ruderman for heading up the efforts there.
The Voter Service Committee meets regularly to plan and execute voter service education and registration events. If you are interested in attending, please contact Anne Duncan for a Zoom link.
| Board Briefs - March 13 Denver League of Women Voters Board of Directors
- The board voted on whether the Denver League should support or oppose any of the three referred measures (2M, 2N and 2O) on the Denver Ballot. Please look to our Ballot Issues page for more detail on the decisions.
- The Communications team is working hard to reach more members and non-members. If you have ideas that would help us please contact Elsie Haley or Frank Bennett.
| League members Carol Lassen (90) and Sally Isaacson (80) celebrated milestone birthdays on Sunday March 12. Congratulations to them both! (Please let the weekly update editors know if you have significant member milestones to share!)
Andrea Mitchell | Interfaith Alliance of Denver Needs Donations to Support Migrants | As of February 23, the highest priority items needed for donation are:
- Menstrual hygiene products
- Diapers, Baby wipes
- New or gently used men’s winter clothes (small and medium only), New socks, underwear/boxers, jackets, hats, gloves, and sweatpants, Large and XL , Men’s shoes and work boots size 7-10, and men’s belts
- Backpacks and/or medium size duffel bags
- Shower sandals, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Travel-size shampoo and conditioner, Soap

Andrea Mitchell | | | Tech Support Help Needed
Your tech support department needs help. The following are tasks that should each have an additional backup person, should the tech support staff not be available. Please let me know if you feel like you would like to learn any of these functions. I will do 1:1 to teach/train you on the function.
- Host Zoom meetings using the LWV Denver account
- Enter meetings into the calendar
- Draft the weekly update
- Update the website with current public/member announcements
- Send an email to membership (or other group)
| Unit meetings are an opportunity for our members to discuss issues in a small group setting. Some units are meeting via zoom and some are meeting live at members' homes.
- Cherrington Unit - will meet 1:00-3:00 Thursday, March 9 following the briefing on the Park Hill Golf Course briefing at Peg Oldham's. Additional meetings are scheduled for March 23 and April 20. Please contact Unit Leader is Peg Oldham 720-220-3988.
- Observatory Unit – Meets the 4 th Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. Unit Leader is Jeanette Scotland 303-479-4368.
- Cheesman Unit meets 2nd & 4th Tuesday 9:30 a.m. Unit Leader is Bobbie Heisterkamp 303-333-6818.
- Highland/Woodbury Unit meets the 3rd Wednesday. Unit Leader is Sally Augden 303-455-5800.
