League Urges U.S. Senate to Extend Census Deadlines

The League joined coalition partners in
urging the U.S. Senate to extend statutory reporting deadlines for apportionment
and redistricting data, to give the U.S. Census Bureau sufficient time to
thoroughly implement complex data processing activities and complete the
most accurate 2020 Census possible. The bipartisan 2020 Census Deadline
Extensions Act (S. 4571) would extend the statutory deadlines for
delivering apportionment and redistricting data to April and July 2021,
respectively, as the administration requested in April 2020. Read
the letter.
Take Action: The Census is NOT Over
The census continues with the final
processing of the data and the determination of the apportionment across
the states. Congress must pass legislation to extend the timeline to
process data, as the administration requested, a length of at least 120
days. Shortening the timeline to collect data and rush operations during a
national pandemic is an intentional plot to sabotage the census and skew
Congressional representation, redistricting, and critical funding
allotments for every state in the country. Tell Congress to protect
the census in the next version of the stimulus bill.
