| Changes Coming to How We Join and Renew Memberships
Starting in February, joining and renewing your membership will be handled by LWVUS. To do this, LWVUS has adopted a new membership platform for national, state and local Leagues called ChapterSpot. We had an article on this change in the Dec/Jan VOTER. In the January Weekly Updates we will be highlighting the changes and how they will impact our members and potential members. This week we will be discussing changes to sustaining memberships.
Sustaining members pay dues above the regular amount and have been so instrumental in supporting our local educational activities, voter service resources and office staff. With the new system, all members will be "regular" members. To continue to "sustain" our local League, members will need to pay the regular membership dues (suggested at $75, minimum of $20) and then on the next page of the join process make a donation to LWV of Denver. This is separate from dues and goes exclusively to support our local League's work. It is important for the additional sustaining amounts to be put in on the donation page and not the membership page.
Final Note: Every current member of the League of Women Voters will receive an email from ChapterSpot this month asking you to log in to the portal for the first time and update your data in the National database. You are not being asked to renew or pay dues, only to log in and complete your member information.
For more information from LWVUS, you can find a list of FAQs located on the National League website at lwv.org under League Management. You can also email membership@lwv.org with any questions.
Today, January 9, we celebrate the birthday of our founder, Carrie Chapman Catt. One of the most influential leaders of the suffragist movement, Catt developed and implemented the state-by-state strategy that finally won women the right to vote 100 years ago. Read more here.
