The League of Women Voters of Denver is hosting our first in-person public briefing this year featuring our illustrious public servant, Tim O’Brien – Denver City Auditor. Tim holds a unique office in that he and his department are independent from the mayor and City Council to report on the government agencies. He has been independently elected twice to lead the auditor’s office in service to the public. His background has been in auditing and accounting for 40 years. In Denver’s strong-mayor form of government, his purpose is to give frank and truthful reports keeping the transparency of how our city is functioning with the clarity that residents may understand.

His department’s reports give the public insight to the accountability of how the taxpayer’s dollars are being used, along with the oversight of improvements recommended to be completed or changed. His focus has been to identify threats in the government’s ability to accomplish each department’s mission. Recently he has given the public reports of how employment and wage compliance has been lacking in Denver, which has led to benefitting many Denver workers. Also, his department conducts efficiency audits to cut waste and time spent to better serve the people of Denver and those doing business in Denver.

For further transparency, residents may subscribe to the monthly newsletters with updates on current reports, along with links to the auditor’s website for more detailed information on all reports. We look forward to his presentation to update us on how Denver is serving the residents. As well as what nuances happen when a new mayor has been elected after a long-term mayor leaves. Enjoy an evening with the very capable Tim O’Brien answering your questions about government processes.
