Back to School - Register to Vote!
The LWVD Voter Service team has developed a partnership with Denver Public Schools (DPS) Volunteer Services Program to bring voter registration to DPS high schools. The LWVD circulators have successfully registered students during lunch hours, civics classes, senior checkout days, and other school events. They coordinate with Deputy Registrars, teachers, administrators, and student government or clubs.
Under state law, each high school is required to designate a staff member as a Deputy Registrar to help students register to vote. Students aged 15–17 can pre-register, and those 18 and older can register. LWVD will be a resource for the schools to help fill this need!
In preparation for the upcoming election, the Manager of Volunteer Services at DPS sent an email to all high schools last week encouraging them to work with LWVD. Check it out here.

New USCIS Guidelines Restrict Voter Registration at Naturalization Ceremonies
For many decades, LWV has gone to naturalization ceremonies and registered new citizens to vote. It is one of the most uplifting experiences you can have as a Leaguer. Under new guidelines from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, this will no longer be possible. Where once they encouraged our participation:
Affirms that USCIS offices coordinate with nonpartisan nongovernmental organizations for voter registration services when state and local government election officials are not available.
As of last Friday they no longer do:
Provides that only state and local election officials are permitted to provide voter registration services at the conclusion of an administrative naturalization ceremony. Nongovernmental entities are not permitted to provide voter registration services at USCIS facilities during naturalization ceremonies

Do you enjoy public speaking? Are you interested in sharing concise and fair information with others? If yes, please volunteer for our Speakers Bureau!
There will be several ballot issues for Denver residents to consider this November. Members of the Voter Service Committee are researching and preparing information on the issues. LWV Denver receives requests for speakers to present ballot information to groups such as community organizations, residential facilities, etc. We already have two requests for this election season.
We provide you the written information and a PowerPoint presentation for you to use. This is a great way for our members to better understand the ballot and share this knowledge with others.

We need to engage and mobilize 8.5 million voters nationwide to protect and preserve our democracy. The first step is committing to Defend Democracy. Sign the pledge yourself and then send it to your community of friends, neighbors, and family.
