Bulb Sale 2026 is Cancelled

Regretfully, the League of Women Voters of Denver is cancelling our 2026 Indoor Bulb Sale. After over 30 years of successfully selling beautiful outdoor and indoor bulbs, and after extensive consideration, we’ve made this decision – at least for the 2026 sale. We sincerely thank our long-time liaison Peter Esseveld, who helped us each year through his work with the wholesale bulb company. Because of the unsettled world that we live in – particularly the shipping world - we couldn’t get guaranteed prices from the wholesaler and their reorganized timeline and process didn’t meet our needs.

We sincerely thank all of you who have been faithful Bulb Sale customers all these years. If you bought outdoor bulbs, we hope your tulips and crocus continue to be glorious! If you bought indoor bulbs, perhaps your Amaryllis are still blooming!

We’re going to help research effective fundraising for the League of Women Voters of Denver. We don’t know if this will result in another Bulb Sale, but please stay tuned as we move forward!

Recap - Facts Over Fear: The Value of Denver’s Immigrants

LWVDenver’s Insights on Issues Briefing on April 20 was inspired by the words of Colorado Senator Iman Jodeh, who noted that policies and legislation to protect the rights of immigrants are, of course, necessary, but what is missing is the overt acknowledgement of their contributions to our society, economy and institutions. Thus, this League event was designed to confront the mis- and disinformation being promulgated by anti-immigrant forces.

Nationally, League is challenging the addition of more funding of ICE and the Customs and Border Patrol, and all local Leagues are focusing on ensuring safe access for all eligible voters to the ballot box. In Colorado, since January 20, 2025, ICE nearly quadrupled its arrests to 4,750 people, terrorizing not only undocumented residents but also others with legal status. Only 5% of those arrested had a history of violent crimes; 65% had no prior criminal convictions. The Aurora Detention Facility, where many are taken, has flexed its capacity to over 1,500 detainees under deplorable conditions.

Such statistics are alarming, but they offer us no human face. Alternatively, looking more closely at how we benefit from having immigrants as our neighbors, as owners of businesses we frequent, as people whose tax dollars help fund our infrastructure, as the source of the food we put on our tables can help us really “see” the faces of immigrants we live among.  Read more here.

We Need Your Help at the CD1 Candidate Forum

As you know, we are hosting a candidate forum for Colorado's 1st Congressional District on Thursday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Montview Blvd. Presbyterian Church.  It should be fascinating to hear from the candidates and we're hoping for a large crowd. We need more volunteers to help us in the roles below. Email the office at info@lwvdenver.org if you are interested.

  • Front Door greeters (3)
  • Media greeters (2)
  • Greeters at doors to Miller Chapel (2)
  • Usher to help with fitting everyone in (2)
  • Candidate Greeters (2)
  • Timekeepers - a really important role! (2)

Shelley Sella, MD is a board-certified OB-GYN and the first woman to practice third-trimester abortion care in the U.S.  Her first book, Beyond Limits: Stories of Third-Trimester Abortion Care, is a tribute to to the real people whose hearts, reasons, and stories are more complex than politicized conversation about abortion lead us to believe.

The LWVCO Statewide Task Force, Reproductive Freedom is looking for volunteers to assist with set-up and the sign-in table that evening.  Contact Leah Audin at l.audin@comcast.net if you are able to help.
